RVSP Offering CarFit Check
South Florida Community College’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will hold a CarFit event, Saturday, Nov. 14, 8 a.m.-noon, in parking lot D, Highlands Campus.
CarFit is an educational program created by the American Society on Aging and developed in collaboration with the American Automobile Association (AAA), American Association of retired Persons (AARP), and the American Occupational Therapy Association. CarFit determines how well older drivers fit in their personal vehicle, highlights actions they can take to improve their fit, and promotes conversations about driver safety and community mobility. A proper fit in one’s personal vehicle increases the safety of the driver and, in turn, passengers and other motorists.
Trained RSVP/CarFit volunteer technicians will work with each participant to complete a 12-point checklist that includes blind spots, mirrors, pedal position, line of sight, and vehicle controls. The process takes approximately 20 minutes.
“Older drivers are more likely to be injured in accidents,” said Kris Schmidt, RSVP coordinator. “If you have a good fit, your chances of being in an accident are reduced.”
