South Florida State College recently hosted the Heartland Regional Science and Engineering Fair (HRSEF) on Feb. 19, where approximately 300 high school and middle school students showcased their knowledge in various areas of science.

Helping judge projects were SFSC employees Loretta Jackson, Dr. Tina Cardenas, Donald Appelquist, Charla Ellerker, Deborah Gutierrez, Dr. Christopher van der Kaay, Rebecca Sroda, and. Dr. Leana Revell.

The HRSEF is a non-profit organization, staffed by volunteer teachers from the six-county Heartland Region that includes DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, and Okeechobee counties. Its purpose is to encourage young researchers in our area to participate in science research.
