SFSC Volunteers for Day of Caring
On May 1, 25 South Florida State College employees cleaned, painted, and planted landscaping at Ralph Meyers’ home in Sebring and the Ridge Area Arc Resale Store in Avon Park as part of United Way of Central Florida’s annual Day of Caring. Each year on Day of Caring, the United Way matches volunteers from businesses, government institutions, and other groups with special projects at local United Way agencies. In the process, volunteers see firsthand how the community benefits from their United Way donations and live out the spirit of volunteering.
At the Ralph Meyers’ home, volunteers painted the inside rooms and pressure washed the exterior. Helping with these tasks were Doug Andrews, Cheryl Arpasi, Dr. Tina Cardenas, Dr. Robert Flores, Debbie Gutierrez, Lynne Hood, Nat Imsdahl, Lorrie Jacques, Keith Loweke, Go Ramnarain, Dr. Leana Revell, Sandi Urmann, Susan Volpitta, and Janet Short. Meyers works in SFSC’s maintenance department and qualifies for assistance because he is disabled.
A second SFSC group volunteered at the Ridge Area Arc Resale Store in Avon Park. The store raises money for services Arc provides to disabled clients in Hardee, Highlands, and Polk counties. These volunteers painted, planted landscaping, and helped with cleaning projects. Volunteers were Eddie Cuencas, Sue Goulette, Susie Hale, Shawn Haralson, Cathy Lewis, Richard Morey, Jerri Palmer, Dee Rawlings, Pam Vestal, and Mary von Merveldt.
