SFSC Bids a Fond Farewell to Susan Livingston
As a librarian specialist, Livingston has had the opportunity to provide students and faculty with reference assistance, as well as formal and informal instruction at South Florida State College for over 12 years.
“Susan is highly intelligent, extremely eloquent, literate, and has an incredible breadth of knowledge which she incorporates into her daily assistance to students,” said Dr. Michael McLeod, dean, academic support. “Librarians are unique individuals, and Susan is a character who I will miss very very much.”
During her 10 years of service to Ask a Librarian, Livingston has received five awards, currently the most awards presented to a member for this service. Ask a Librarian provides Florida residents with virtual reference services through live chat and text messaging.
She will miss interacting with students and faculty the most. “It’s gratifying to help people understand the process of gathering, analyzing, and evaluating information in meaningful ways,” Livingston said. “Once in a while, I get through to someone.”
Prior to working at SFSC, Livingston was an academic librarian, a public librarian, and a school media specialist.
During her retirement, Livingston will remain in Highlands County and plans to spend time sewing, paper crafting, reading, volunteering, and hanging out with her beloved cats. As an avid animal lover, she plans to become involved with the Highlands County Humane Society.
