SFCC Hosts Opening Ceremony for Intramural Fields
The Student Government Association (SGA) of South Florida Community College (SFCC) is hosting an Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting for SFCC’s new Intramural Fields on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 12:30 p.m., at the SFCC Highlands Campus. The Intramural Fields are located just north of the parking area at the Panther Athletic Complex. The first intramural football game will take place immediately following the ceremony.
All intramural sports will be completely SGA driven and supervised. “These fields have been the dream of many past SGA executive boards,” said Laura Wade, coordinator, student life. “They will give SFCC students a safe place to gather and play intramural sports without the threat of being injured due to inappropriate playing fields.”
All students must reserve the fields through the Athletic Department, be current SFCC students or employees, and sign a release form prior to play. “These fields have been the collaboration of SGA, the Athletic Department, and Administration and came to fruition this past summer,” said Rick Hitt, SFCC athletic director and head baseball coach. “We are really excited to open these fields and give SFCC students a place to call their own for their recreational and athletic use.” The fields are handicap accessible and are large enough to accommodate most outside sports, such as football and soccer. The fields will be open for use after Wednesday, Oct. 19, during daylight hours.
Intramural football has been scheduled for October and November. These dates are: Wednesday, Oct. 19, 12:30- 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2:30 – 4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, 2:30 – 4 p.m., and Thursday, Nov. 17, 2:30 – 4 p.m.
