Channeling game show icon Alex Trebek, Dr. Christopher van der Kaay quizzed the Orange Team and the White Team on the finer points of GPS. After 30 minutes of nail-biting excitement, the Orange Team amassed a winning 1,400 points and claimed the top “GPS Jeopardy” prize –new SFCC water bottles.
Representing the Orange Team were Beth Andrews, Lynn MacNeill, Stacy Sharp, Ricardo Pantoja, and Jackie Tillman. The White Team consisted of Davida Austin, Dr. Mike McLeod, Nelly Ford, Cathy Futral, and Dawn Pisarski.
GPS is an intensive 16-hour orientation program being developed for incoming freshmen. It has been in the works since 2009, when SFCC’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Taskforce was charged with developing a program that would enhance the learning experience for SFCC students and meet a criteria for the college’s 2011 reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). GPS will launch as a pilot program in fall 2012 and become mandatory for all incoming freshmen in spring 2013.
