Art Professor Cathy Futral Chosen to Grade AP Exams
In June, SFCC Art Professor Cathy Futral participated in the annual reading and scoring of the College Boards’ Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations in Studio Art in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is the second year Futral has been selected to score student portfolios.
Over 40,000 portfolios were submitted, and readers scored them over a seven day period using specific standards and rubrics provided by the College Board. The portfolios were scored on 2D Design, 3D Design, and Drawing.
“It was an intense time,” Futral said. “We had to evaluate the work based on specific rubrics and standards that were set by the College Board while making sure not to be biased toward the rubrics and standards we use in our own classrooms.”
Each year, the College Board AP Program gives more than 1.5 million high school students an opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses and examinations. Based on their exam performance, successful students can receive credit and /or advanced placement when they enter college.
