South Florida Community College’s Lady Panthers Volleyball team begins its 2009 season Friday, Aug. 28, 7 p.m., against Florida College in Temple Terrace.
Its first home game in the Panther Gymnasium will be Saturday, Sept. 5, at 2 p.m., against Webber International University. The complete volleyball schedule is available online.
The Lady Panthers include two returning sophomores, nine freshmen players, and one first-time sophomore player. Kim Crawford, a former Lady Panther and former professional volleyball player, begins her seventh season as head coach. Charlotte Bauder is the assistant volleyball coach, and Richard Bozeman is the volunteer assistant volleyball coach.
“My coaching staff and I are very excited about this year’s Lady Panthers team,” Crawford said. “We have two outstanding returning sophomores, Casey Driscoll and Jessica Singewald, who have displayed great leadership and support for the incoming freshman. The team has been training since Aug. 1, and has played in three scrimmage matches to prepare for the season.”
A highlight of the season will be Oct. 2-3, when the Lady Panthers host the SFCC Tournament and play matches against State College of Florida, Gulf Coast Community College, Indian River State College, and Webber International University. The season ends in November with the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) regional tournament at Polk State College.
