Dr. Stephens Receives Leadership Award
South Florida Community College President Dr. Norm Stephens recently received the National Bronze Leadership Award for his work with Junior Achievement (JA) of West Central Florida, Inc. The JA Worldwide Leadership Award recognizes the most passionate volunteers throughout the United States, representing the top one percentile of all volunteers.
“Dr. Stephens was nominated for the award because he has served as an outstanding board member for the past five years,” said Lily Romine, JA Executive Director of Highlands and Polk counties. “Since he became chairman two years ago, our enrollment has increased and we have expanded our programs into local elementary schools. He is always available, whether for conference calls, fundraising, planning, and events, and he has even taken the time to recognize and train future JA leaders. Dr. Stephens is the mark of a true leader.”
JA is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. JA programs help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.
Dr. Stephens received his award during the Hall of Achievement Celebration Dinner held at Busch Gardens on March 24.
