Panther Tales Adds New Features

Although it’s only 1 1/2 years old, South Florida Community College’s eMagazine for employees – www.sfccpanthertales.net – has undergone a minor makeover by adding new features.

Most notably, the “new” Panther Tales includes a Flash-based tag cloud in its redesigned sidebar section. When a mouse cursor moves over the cloud, the keywords rotate up and down or left and right. Clicking on any term creates a list of postings related to that topic. For example, by choosing the term “Community,” users find all the postings about SFCC’s involvement in the community:  nursing students’ outreach activities, Florida Association of Community Colleges (FACC) yard sales and food drives, United Way Day of Caring, and a student-designed Habitat for Humanity home.

The basic monthly archive listing has been replaced with an expandable archive. By clicking the [+] in front of each year, users expand the archive to reveal a subgroup of monthly postings. Click the [+] in front of any month to view its postings. Close any expanded archive group by clicking on the [-] in front of the title.

The links listing has been expanded to include links to the websites of SFCC Performing Arts, SFCC MOFAC, the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC), Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Florida College System, and the Florida Legislature.

The electronic Panther Tales has been embraced by college employees as a source of news and information about SFCC. In the last year alone, 494 Panther Tales pages were viewed 12,871 times. Among the postings of greatest interest were Professional Development Day, the opening of the SFCC Theatre for the Performing Arts, and Dr. Norm Stephens’ message.
