Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony
South Florida Community College held a Veterans Day Ceremony and Remembrance Walk on Nov. 11 on the Highlands Campus. “Veterans Day is a day of sorrow and pleasure,” said Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army (Ret.) Cesar Pinzon. “Today we honor the veterans that didn’t make it back, but we also thank the families of the soldier, the airman, the marine, who are out there now. We thank them for being there for our military. They are true patriots.”
Ed Westberry, Air Medal recipient, Vietnam Veteran, and current SFCC student, addressed the crowd during SFCC’s Veterans Day ceremony. Westberry said he was honored to serve because “no other group in the history of mankind has liberated more countries or freed more people than the U.S. military.”
The Veterans Day Ceremony was followed by a Remembrance Walk around the SFCC Highlands Campus. The walk was led by the Avon Park High School Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Core (AFJROTC), Knights of Columbus, Our Lady Queen of the Universe Assembly, and the SFCC Basic Corrections Academy Class 2010-177.
