South Florida Community College’s Art Club will hold a soup bowl lunch, Tuesday, Nov. 2 and Nov. 9, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in Building B, Highlands Campus.

The lunch includes soup, bread, dessert, and a drink, and is $5 per person. A wide variety of homemade soups and desserts prepared by Art Club members and members of the Highlands art community will be available. Decorative soup bowls created by SFCC art students will also be on sale for $5 each. A raffle and silent auction will also be held during the lunch. Raffle items include prints by Cathy Futral and Max Gooding. Auction items include paintings, prints, and goody bags containing a variety of items. Silent auction bidding will begin Thursday, Oct. 28 and will end on Thursday, Nov. 11, 11:59 a.m.

The soup bowl lunch and auction is an annual fundraiser to help will raise money for students from the Art Club who will go on an annual four-day educational trip to New York City in February. They will visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the galleries in SOHO, Ground Zero, and other sightseeing opportunities.

“This trip is important because many students haven’t traveled outside of Florida,” said Cathy Futral, professor, Art. It is important for them to see original works of arts: sculptures, paintings, and ancient works. The soup bowl lunch helps provide them with a means to visit a place they might not have the opportunity to otherwise.”

“The trip is a great cultural and learning experience for our students,” said Misti Rucks, Art Club president. “I traveled on the club’s trip to Washington D.C. last year and learned so much about culture and art. I’m very excited about going to New York in February.”
