Kellie Zimmer Receives International Award
South Florida Community College mathematics professor Kellie Zimmer received the Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology from the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning during its 2010 conference. Thirty-one colleges and universities throughout the world nominated faculty to receive the award. The award celebrates the contributions of experienced full-time faculty who have contributed in the most highly creative ways to teaching, learning, and technology.
Zimmer received the award for her Fast Track in Math program. Students in her program take two math courses in one academic semester. “I realized that the success rate of my students was higher during my six-week summer classes because we spent more time together,” Zimmer said. “I now spend intensive eight hours a week with my students.” The program also helps acclimate them to college culture while helping them learn to work together in groups and rely on each other.
“I am honored to receive this because it was a nomination from my peers,” she said. “However the most important thing to me is student success. My students are doing better in my course, and I hope they will now do better in their future courses.”

Way to go, Kellie! A well-deserved award.
